The ultimate recreation of the legendary 10th Doctor sonic screwdriver is here. This is the final word in any recreation of this prop.

In 2008 CT changed the game. In 2025, he's done it again. Through access to his legendary vault of screen used Doctor Who props and costumes, his extensive industry contacts, reference material and the ashes of his abandoned 'Final Edition' project, we've resurrected his work to bring you the 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver - 'Reference Edition'. CT originally wanted us to call it the 'Mic Drop' edition but we didn't want to be that provocative or disrepectful to the talented makers of some really rather decent replicas of this prop but we felt that the market needs a bookend to this iconic prop and what better way than to make the very best and most accurate recreation ever released from the leading authority on this prop? Allow us to present to you The Reference Edition. 

Developed and referenced from both original 'A' and 'B' filming props and ancillary reference material supplied by the actual machinists who made the original props on behalf of Aztec Models and the BBC commissioned refits, The Reference Edition is a museum quality facsimile recreation of this iconic prop. Forget what you think you know or what you've been told about this prop. This is the real deal. The embodiment of cold hard prop truth recreated without compromise. 

The reference edition is a replica unlike any other. In fact, it shouldn't even be considered a replica at all. This has been built to be as close to the original filming props as you can get, by the same machinists and propmakers who built the originals, not just looked after them, using the exact same materials and build notes. In many ways, the RE is a sister prop to the original screen used props with the same strange idiosyncrasies. hand painted imperfections and build quirks. This means the construction and assembly, both external and internal, will be replicated without any idealisation, correction or compromise. Look, weight and feel will match the screen used props at the beginning of Season 4 and will provide a lasting physical snapshot of it to live forever in your collections.

Constructed from aluminium stock from the same supplier of the stuff used on the original props, delrin and brass, it is hand painted over Pantone matched grey paint in the last surviving batch of New Old Stock Aleene's crackle paint that we know of (Imagine our surprise when we stumbled upon a couple of hundred bottles in still perfect condition in CT's storage facility!?) and will come in a custom recreated Maglite case in which the original props were stored. The prop will also include a custom numbered plaque that matches the internally engraved numbering of this rather special limited edition run. What the prop won't come with is sound. The screen used prop didn't have sound and neither will the Reference Edition. It will only feature a light but the circuit is so simple that some bright spark will probably figure out a way to put it in but that is none of our business.
