There are no words that will accurately capture the feeling you get when you crack the case on this masterpiece. As someone who's been a CT customer for a few years, I knew what I was getting myself into when I put my money down for this replica, but what I didn't know, was how well CT would surpass his previous works with the attention to detail and structural integrity.
The sonic is SOLID. Right out of the box, you'll notice how secure the cage is. A decent amount of friction keeps the sonic locked tight until you're ready to give it the trademark toss and flick. Springs in the claws have great tension, and the claws rest flush against the emitter. rivets are appropriately sized, and the knurling is spot on to the original, non-static, hero props. Gaps in the cage are almost non-existent, perfectly capturing that look from the Series 5 screwdriver.
The leather handle section is smooth and supple, not waxy or plastic in appearance. The stitching is great. Stitch count and orientation is appropriate and comparable to the original filming props.
The lenses and white handle being cast from original screen-used pieces really add to the already insurmountable authenticity of this piece. The lenses have the appropriate milky swirl and alchemic translucent green. They are tapped to the appropriate depth, so that when illuminated, only the tip is lit. The lenses are threaded so they remain secure under even the most strenuous flick. A cosmetic grub screw is added to mirror the look of the originals. The white handle section arrived already aged to a perfect antique yellow that is normally achieved over time. Being made in the exact method as the originals, you get the pits that will capture dirts and oils with use and ultimately capture the look of a well-traveled sonic.
The end cap is something that's bit of a mystery to the un-initiated, but having had access to the originals, CT was able to re-create the mysterious "red-button" in excruciating accuracy. Milled from the same blanks, and even opening to the EXACT angle of the originals, this is the definitive detail that cements this as the ONLY faithful replica of the series 5 sonic.
The flick action is immaculate. Absolutely unbeatable. The sound of the sonic extension on the show is added in post production, but with tight tolerances and a bit of brilliant machining, the sound you get when flicking is delicious. "shhiiiing". As though you're unsheathing a well-made sword. The friction in the slide allows for display at any length, and the activation of the emitter is possible through flick and closing, with no hiccups.
The flight case it comes in is a wonderful method of display and protection during transportation. The serial number placard lifts to reveal a battery and lens storage compartment, and is great for keeping track of your included red lens and extra batteries. With the immediately identifiable seal of Rassillon on top, reinforced corners and laser cut foam inserts, there's just nothing else I could have asked for in terms of added goodies.
There really is nothing I can say that hasn't been beat to death in the forums and youtube comment sections.... but in closing, I will say this:
There is no other place in the galaxy that will find a more faithful recreation of Matt Smiths iconic screwdriver as seen in Series 5 & 6.
