Before I start, I feel obligated to state that this is, by far, my favorite costume replica. In fact, as the Celestial Toystore (CT) says, this isn't a replica in the traditional sense. This is exactly as supplied to, and worn on screen by, Benedict Cumberbatch in the BBC series Sherlock. (Series 3 onwards.) Before I continue, I should state that even if I disliked this coat, my review wouldn't be a hell of a lot different. The fact remains that this is fully accurate to what you see on screen.
The amount of detail that went into this replica blows my mind. It uses the exact same material as the original Belstaff, and even dons the exact same modifications that were made by the costume department. Hell, it even has the same weight! What shouldn't have surprised me, yet did, was that the sizing is even equal to that of Belstaff's, throughout small to extra large. Seriously, that is an insane amount of attention to detail.
Of course, there is one modification CT made that is inaccurate to the original Belstaff coat. Ah, the stiffened collar. Let me tell you, I wish all my coats had a stiffened collar now that I've tried this on. This may be an expensive coat, but it's certainly not far off from other designer dozen coats I own. I have no idea why large high end fashion designers haven't done this. Burberry, Paul Smith, London Fog, none of them. I have never found a stiffened collar. Now I never have to worry about half of my collar limping over my shoulder or the entire thing falling down in the wind. It looks crisp and functions beautifully throughout the season.
Every detail on this coat is aesthetically pleasing. The red hand braided buttonholes truly give the coat an interesting and unique look. Along with them, the color matched buffalo horn hand painted buttons appear to be meticulously and beautifully made.
Admittedly, the interior lining is different from the Belstaff coat. The Belstaff coat featured their brandname, "Belstaff", spattered all over the lining. For obvious reasons, CT could not recreate this. Instead, he chose to replace this with the name "Sherlock". It's a perfect replacement, and is a much better solution to ignoring the text completely. To my knowledge, this is also fully accurate to the screen used series 3 coats, and regardless detracts nothing from the value of this coat.
Some people may be weary due to the price of £750 plus shipping. I assure you, this is worth every penny. In fact, I'd pay significantly more than this. The original Belstaff was even more expensive than this literally identical replica (barring the labels). I seriously recommend this coat to anyone with a fashion sense and some money to spare. That's right, even if you've never watched Sherlock. It's genuinely a nice coat, and so I don't view it as a replica. It's just a fucking awesome coat.
